22-10-29 PHOTOS: HARRIS With Friends

After my trip to the recently preserved Harrisburg Power Director's office, I had a non-railfan friend express interest in heading up to see the facility for themselves. The bad news was that after driving up we found that they would not be opening the PDO that day. The good news was that he had a ton of fun working the HARRIS tower Model 14 interlocking machine while I did train photos. You can find the full set of those photos here ( mirror ). Also included are bonus photos of the MARC Brunswick Line Kensington station and some Amtrak/SEPTA/PATCO stuff.

First up was Amtrak ACS-86 #655 on a Keystone trainset relay move.

Arriving soon after was an eastbound coal train led by C44-10W #7540 and Union Pacific run-through SD70ACe #8586.

Behind this was an eastbound merchandise train with ES44AC #8033 and C44-9W #9715.

At this time it was time for lunch and on the way to the mall food court I popped by the Harrisburg Station that has retained much of its PRR era interior.

Unfortunately the Chock O Block Clock kinetic sculpture had been removed from the Strawberry Square Mall where the closest eateries to HARRIS tower are located.

Upon my return with lunch I was greeted by a westbound intermodal with NS AC44C6M #4535 and ET44AC #3634.

After that was an eastbound intermodal with AC44C6M's #4234 and #4101.

After that was a westbound empty coal train with NS AC44C6M #4847, SD70ACe #1039 and ES44AC #8057 (shown with Amtrak Metroliner Cab Car #9641).

Next up AC44C6M #4010 and C44-10W #7688 rolled past with an eastbound double stack COFC intermodal.

I was wondering why the HARRIS tower parking area was filling up with railfans when NS heritage ES44AC #8114 followed by UP SD70ACe #8911 answered my question.

There's always one movement with a jumbo lashup and today the honor belonged to a westbound manifest train with NS C44-10W #7606, C44's-9W #9868 and #9482, ES44AC #8168 and ET44AC #3662.

The hits kept rolling with SD70ACC #1834 and C44-10W #7647 and an oil train.

Mixing things up was an eastbound train of autoracks with ES44AC #8034 leading and C44-10W #7610 in the DP position.

The sun was getting pretty low in the sky as SD70ACC #1085 and C44-9W #9608 head west with another oil train.

Last movement of the day at HARRIS was SD70ACC #1806 with a short intermodal transfer hop headed to Rutherford Yard.

PRR GG1 #4859 was visible under the Harrisburg train shed on the cut track #8.

Rainy weekday afternoon at MARC's Kensington, MD stop on the Brunswick Line where MARC MP36PH-3C #31 and cab car #7761 pass by the Milepost 11 "KENSINGTON" signal location on the CSX Metropolitan Sub. This was followed by a 5-car Capitol limited powered by Amtrak's penultimate P42DC #206. The blind curve at the Kensington Station makes use of the duckboard crossing a bit spicy, however the bell that used to provide advance warning was removed for some reason.

Finishing up with some NEC photos, here is Amtrak Acela Express power car #2023 at BWI and SEPTA Silverliner V #828 at 30th St Station.

Finally SEPTA Silverliner IV #286 at both 30th St and Market East.

That's all for now. Next time I'll be back to my old stomping grounds of Baltimore Penn Station as it undergoes a renovation project.
